Description
A knife rarely goes dull all at once: with every cut, the fine edge bends a little out of line, and the blade starts to slide instead of bite. A honing rod pushes that edge back into line in a few strokes, so you sharpen far less often.
The rod is high carbon steel, 36 cm long overall, with a brown wood handle and a metal guard that keeps your hand clear of the blade.
Wipe the rod with a dry cloth after use and dry it straight away, as carbon steel should not stay wet. Do not put it in the dishwasher.

Honing Rod

No rod vs. the rod
Why a sharp knife goes dull so quickly.
The edge folds over with use; without honing, it feels blunt long before it is.
No honing
- Edge bends out of line
- Knife slides on tomato skin
- Sharpening needed too often
- More pressure, less control
The rod
- Edge realigned — in a few strokes
- Sharpen less — the blade lasts longer
- Safe grip — wood handle and guard
- Easy to store — in a drawer or on a strip

The questions people ask right before they buy.
Is honing the same as sharpening?
No. Honing straightens the edge; sharpening removes metal to make a new one. Hone often and you will need to sharpen far less.
Which knives can I use it with?
Most steel kitchen knives. It is not intended for ceramic or serrated blades.
What angle should I use?
Around 15° for Japanese-style knives and around 20° for most Western knives.
How do I care for the rod?
Wipe it dry after each use and hang it up. Carbon steel should not be left wet or put in the dishwasher.
What if it arrives damaged?
Send a photo within 14 days of delivery and we replace it free. Anything later, write to us with a photo and we'll look at it case by case.
Is shipping really free?
Yes — standard shipping to Ireland is free, taxes and import duties are included at checkout, and there's no minimum order.
